April Ross
April Ross is one of only a few female beach volleyball athletes to capture medals at multiple Olympics. Alix Klineman, competing for the first time at Tokyo's Olympic Games, will try to earn her third Olympic medal. Ross is hoping to secure an Olympic first gold medal however, she also hopes to earn even more. With her age of 39, this may be Ross' last chance to win an Olympic gold. But she's still convinced of winning top awards. Ross was quoted in NBC Boston as saying that when you perform at your very best, even if you do well, we'll get the gold. Also, I'll take the opportunity to try my chance. Ross born in 1982 and lived in Costa Mesa California with her siblings and parents, started participating in the sports of Newport Harbor High School. Ross competed in many sports while attending Newport Harbor High School. While a prep student, she competed in basketball, indoor volleyball and running track. She clearly was the top player in indoor volleyball. In her own biography her high school days, she was a volleyball player as an outside hitter (middle blocker) and setting (outside blocker). As a tribute to her efforts she was awarded the Gatorade Award for National Player in 1999. In 2000, she was recognized as the Orange County Athlete of the year for volleyball. Ross and Klineman have been continuing to play in 2017. However, Ross was a major player in the beach volleyball scene before joining the duo. In reality, she was a winner of numerous major events with two different partners, among them an icon of volleyball. From 2007 to 2013, she was partnered with Jennifer Kessy, who is the coach she is currently. Kessy was Ross's co-coach at the World Championships of 2009. They went on to win a silver in the 2012 Olympic Games at London. Misty May, Kerri Walsh and Kerri Jennings were the team that could take home the gold. Ross Jennings took over for May-Treanor after she retired. In 2016, the duo were awarded bronze medals at the Rio Olympics for beach volleyball. Ross participated in the USC Trojans in college years after she graduated the high school she attended. Ross's Trojans experience was impressive. In 2000, she was named Pac-10 Freshman as well as NCAA Freshman of the Year, and was also an All-American. In 2000, her Trojans also reached the Final Four. Her personal tragedy was a crushing loss during her sophomore year, but she still repeated in the ranks of an All-American. In her last two seasons within the team, she guided the Trojans towards the summit by winning two consecutive national championships. Individually she had cemented herself as an all-time legend having won the 2003-04 Honda Sports Award as the highest ranked female volleyball player. Ross was a major in international relations at USC. Margie Ross did not see her daughter achieve the heights of beach volleyball. In 2001 when Ross was in her sophomore year at USC her mother passed away due to breast cancer. But she still keeps her mother in her his heart. Margie is a source of inspiration both in her personal life and at the beach.
